I think this is the optimal ranger build, and it's proven to be successful in late game. I know purists don't like the mimic or frost grenades, and those saved me from taking more damage from one sectopod, sure. Granted, this wasn't the MOST difficult mission, but it wasn't a cakewalk either. I was shocked this mission went as well as it did, considering the bad start. The double shot for Rapid Fire is a lifesaver, and combined with Implacable + Untouchable, you have no fear of running into a dangerous spot to blast an enemy, then dance back out of danger. Mission success: 1 lightly wounded ranger.

Next pod: 1 Elite Shieldbearer, 1 Elite Stun Lancer, 1 Sectopod with 6 armor (before shieldbearer) 2 Archons, 1 Codex, 1 Elite Shieldbearer, 1 Elite officer. Thanks to smoke and Phantom the first alien round saw no hits. The mission started out somewhat badly as I accidentally aggro'd two pods and was not in an ideal position. I usually try to upgrade their weapons for maximum crit chances or aim. One frost grenade, one mimic beacon, one smoke, 2 nanomedkits, 1 EMP grenade. One talon rounds, one armor piercing round. So the 3 colonels on the mission were built as above.įor Gear (from memory) they had the maximum armor upgrade, maximum plasma shotgun upgrade (whatever it's called) & fusion blades for swords (had the extra supplies for it). I always build rangers thus: Phantom, Shadowstrike, Run & Gun, Implacable, Untouchable, Rapid Fire. I believe the composition was 3 colonels, 1 major, 1 squaddie, and I forget the sixth. Unfortunately, the Avatar timer filled up, so I was forced to assault a one bar facility I've been sitting on, but I decided to try the ranger squad for the achievement anyway. To get the Overpowered achievement, one has to take all of one class on a mission and succeed. I have enabled all DLC expansions in this campaign.

I have not done ironman yet, but plan to. Just a bit of context: I'm nearly finished with my Legendary campaign and am currently stalling, trying to knock out a few achievements (over 70%). What I read is usually justified, but I think it's because people aren't using the class up to its potential. I'm mostly a lurker here, but I see the ranger class take a lot of flak on the sub.
